About the Project Team
The Community Disaster Information Systems (CDIS) project is based in Miami
University, Oxford, Ohio. The project team is led by professors Anne Carson and
Jean Vanderbeek, both of the Nursing Department, and Douglas Troy, of the Computer
Science & Systems Analysis Department. Both departments are a part of the School
of Engineering and Applied Science.
Anne Carson, MSN, RN, CPNP is a board certified pediatric nurse practitioner and
an Associate Professor with the Department of Nursing. She has been on the faculty
of Miami University for over 13 years. She is a former school nurse in Cincinnati.
Carson has been an American Red Cross volunteer in the Cincinnati Area Chapter for
over 20 years as chair of nursing and in youth services. She has been part of Disaster
Mental Health Services since 1987, serving on numerous local disasters and on national
disasters, including two assignments in New York City for the 9/11 terrorist attack.
Jean Vanderbeek, MS APRN, BC is a board certified advanced practice RN and an Associate
Professor with the Department of Nursing. She has been on the faculty of Miami University
for over 20 years. She has published several articles dealing with technology and
health care and received the Miami University Middletown technological award in
1999. She has been a volunteer in the Dayton Area Chapter in Disaster Health Services,
has served as a function leader at the chapter, and on numerous local and national
disasters.
Dr. Douglas A. Troy is Professor and Chair of the Computer Science and Systems Analysis
Department. He has over 10 years experience in developing software in commercial
environments, and has taught computer science courses at Miami for over 20 years.
Dr. Scott Campbell is Director of Computer Labs in the Computer Science and Systems
Analysis Department at Miami. He is leading the software development work on the
project.
Dan Janosik is a computer science student completing requirements for his BS degree
at Miami. He also develops an open-source 3-D game engine Firestorm.
Previous Project Personnel
Tony Chang was one the original software developers of the system. He designed and
developed the original database and the web-based database management system. Upon
graduating from Miami with his BS degree in Computer Science, Tony received a master’s
degree and is currently employed in the computer field.
Tom Knoblaugh. Tom was one of the original members of the project's software development
team. He completed his BS in Computer Science at Miami and is currently studying
in China.
Alex Argo recently graduated from the Computer Science department at Miami and is
employed in the computer field.
Raj Doshi is a student completing requirements for his BS(in Mathematics) & MS(in
Computer Science) at Miami. He develops
Taco HTML Edit for Mac OS X in his spare time.
Michael D. Jones, RN, and Jaime L. Kist, RN were on the original project team. They
graduated from Miami with their BS degrees in nursing. Michael and Jaime contributed
to the requirements for the database and the user interface on the handheld PocketPCs.
